It was all smiles and fulfilment when popular gospel artiste, Samsong signed talented singer, Skala Wee to his Boogie Down Concept, on a two years management deal.
Speaking with Engr kayode Ajayi at the signing of the contract on Thursday in Abuja, he said, Samsong, whose real name is Samson Mogekwu, clarified that his company will manage the Rivers State-born gospel artiste on behalf of Pharcyde Entertainment.
The “Bianule” crooner said his company was created to create platforms for Skala Wee just like he has done with several others like Steve Willis, Chris Ade, CD, Tempo, 565, and other upcoming artistes to excel on the big stage.
According to him, “Skala Wee is somebody I knew a long time ago. He made a very massive hit in this country some years ago with his song, “Nothing Pass God”. And for the past four years, I didn’t hear from him. Then I bumped into him here in Abuja and asked him what he has been doing with his music since that hit. So he told me his plans and out of the same passion to help guide, protect and establish artistes, i called him for a meeting to chart a way forward. And that is why we are having this ceremony.
Speaking on the terms of the contract, Samsong said, “What we are signing is a two-year contract and we have things we have promised to do for the artiste and he has his obligation to us. But basically because we are friends, the term is more or less a memorandum of understanding, it is not written in stone but we have it as a guide to run it for two years during which time Skala Wee would have become a household name by the Grace of God. We have agreed on certain percentages to work with which we cannot make public”.
On his part, CEO of Pharcide Entertainment, Barrister Derek Chibuike, expressed optimism that with the right guidance, Skala Wee will take the global gospel stage by storm. He added that the artiste has almost completed work on his first album. According to him, “We started work not too long ago after our paths cross. I decided to start up something with him and I knew Samsong was the right person to channel all the resources and energy to. Our projection basically is not here, we are thinking about conquering the whole world and Africa. Nigeria is just our starting point and by the Grace of God, we can achieve.
Also speaking Skala Wee whose real name is Ojuka Wellington-Walter, said the signing will mark the beginning of a new chapter for him as he intends to put his name on the map. He explained that he took a long break from music because of the collapse of his record label which made it difficult to start all over. Skala Wee noted that, “I was signed on to Long John Investment and they were managing the album, ‘Nothing Pass God’. Somewhere along the line, the record label decided to drop out of business and because I was new, they were handling everything that concerned me.
So when they shut down, it became difficult to start over again, though I was running my own studio, it wasn’t as big as the label. We didn’t really fall out just that everything I did was not as big as Nothing Pass God.
