Egbin Power, Nigeria’s foremost power generation company, has highlighted the essential contributions of women in the energy sector and various societal aspects, calling for their increased engagement to ensure a sustainable future.

This call to action was made during a vibrant event celebrating women within the organization and globally, in honor of International Women’s Day 2025.

Mokhtar Bounour, CEO of Egbin Power, addressed attendees, reiterating the company’s dedication to promoting gender equality, diversity, and inclusion. He encouraged women to pursue excellence with confidence and boldness in their endeavors.

“At Egbin Power, we view diversity not merely as an objective but as a vital ingredient for innovation and growth. Women are crucial to both society and our industry, and their contributions are fundamental to our success. Today, we honor their achievements and reaffirm our commitment to cultivating a workplace where every woman can flourish,” Bounour stated. He praised women worldwide, especially Nigerian women, for their significant roles both professionally and at home, noting that their impactful contributions are pivotal to the development of the sector.

As part of its initiatives for the 2025 International Women’s Day, Egbin Power hosted presentations, mentorship sessions, and interactive workshops, where two guest speakers engaged female employees in activities aimed at empowering them personally and professionally.

One of the key presentations was titled “Accelerate Action: A Call to Do More,” delivered by guest speaker Ijeoma Nwakuche, Managing Director of MML Consulting Ltd. Nwakuche shared insights on the importance of equality and equity in today’s world, particularly within male-dominated industries. “Women need to be seen, heard, and recognized for their rightful place, especially in the workplace,” she emphasized. She noted that International Women’s Day serves as an opportunity for organizations, governments, and individuals to encourage women to believe in themselves and act decisively.

She acknowledged Egbin Power’s Board and Management for their robust support of women through various initiatives that foster an enabling environment for their success.

Dr. Yomi Jaye, Managing Director of CECCY Health, also spoke at the event, focusing on “Mental Health and Lifestyle Approaches for Women.” He underscored the importance of prioritizing health to enable women to fulfill their roles effectively both at work and at home, advocating for healthy diets, quality sleep, and exercise as essential components of emotional and mental well-being.

Emmanuel Udu, Chief Corporate Service Officer of Egbin Power, encouraged women to harness their passions by discussing “Turning Your Passion into a Side Hustle.” He highlighted the potential for entrepreneurship by transforming interests into viable business ventures, leading to personal fulfillment and financial independence.

During the event, the CEO recognized outstanding women for their remarkable contributions to the organization and the industry, presenting the CEO’s Special Awards to Jadesola Ogundipe from the Electrical Department, Endurance Otaru from the Business Operations Department, and Engr. Temitope Abdulsalam, a Senior Manager at TCN–Egbin Sub-Region.

Through the celebration of International Women’s Day 2025, Egbin Power reaffirmed its belief in the transformative impact of diversity and gender equality, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5).
